Shoes for Kids

When buying shoes for kids, it’s important to select shoes that fit properly and provide sufficient support. Growing feet shouldn’t be crammed into shoes without room for tiny toes to wiggle around. An accurate measurement is extremely important.

Children’s shoe sizes range from 0 for infants to size 13. Half sizes are ordinarily offered in addition to whole sizes. Like adult shoes, kids’ shoes are usually available in several widths.

Good shoes don’t have to be terribly expensive, and expensive shoes aren’t necessarily good. Examine the construction of the shoe carefully before buying it. Check the stitching, if any exists, to ensure it is even. Feel the thickness of the insole. Notice how well the insoles and soles are attached.

For kids’ shoes, which typically get lots of wear and tear, the type of material used to make the shoe is important. Leather or rubber tend to be more durable than vinyl or plastic but may not always be appropriate for summer.

If the child is old enough, let him or her have a say in the style selected. Kids need to feel socially accepted, and shoes are one of the criteria children often use to judge their peers.
